Asheville, N.C. – Sept. 25, 2019 – ShopRite, Edison, N.J., was recognized with the Retail Brand Extension Marketer of the Year award by the Certified Angus Beef ® brand for leadership in product quality, marketing and sales. The award was presented at the brand’s Annual Conference, held Sept. 23-25, in Asheville, N.C. Brand partners at the conference, including meat processors, distributors, chefs, retailers and cattle ranchers, explored merchandising and marketing solutions to satisfy growing consumer demand for great-tasting beef.

ShopRite stores throughout the northeast, from Connecticut to Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, offer a wide selection of the branded beef, which is cut in-house by trained meat butchers. It’s the premium brand of beef in the service and self-service cases, so it’s regularly featured in the weekly circular, in-store promotions and advertising.

“Our customers know when they buy the Certified Angus Beef ® brand that they’re getting the same eating experience each time they buy the product,” says Greg Hauzen, the public relations manager for ShopRite through the Wakefern Food Corporation.

This year, ShopRite added Certified Angus Beef ® brand Prime offerings to give customers a restaurant-quality beef option. Only the top 3% of beef achieves this level of quality. The weekly feature and advertising led customers to the meat case for their favorite cuts, where meat department staff kept the cases well stocked, and visited with customers about their product selections and the brand’s quality.

The Prime products have been well received by customers seeking higher quality beef cuts, which combined with team training, helped the company also to receive the brand’s No. 2 Sales Volume Large Chain Retailer award.

“I love teaching and training our people in the meat department,” says Mark Salerno, meat merchandising and operations supervisor. “We spend a lot of time teaching and training. They have confidence that we’re giving them what’s best for the meat case and the knowledge to interact with customers.”
