Asheville, N.C. – Sept. 25, 2019 – Buckhorn Steakhouse, Winters, Calif., was recognized with the Legendary Steakhouse award by the Certified Angus Beef ® brand. The award was presented at the brand’s Annual Conference, held Sept. 23-25, in Asheville, N.C. Brand partners at the conference, including meat processors, distributors, chefs, retailers and cattle ranchers, explored merchandising and marketing solutions to satisfy growing consumer demand for great-tasting beef.

Celebrating 40 years in business, Buckhorn Steakhouse has become a destination restaurant known for serving the same quality and same consistency with impeccable service and the Certified Angus Beef ® brand. The restaurant serves classic steaks, like filet mignon, ribeye, tomahawk and N.Y. strip, as well as its signature tri-tip and selection of 10 menu items from the top sirloin. Most cuts are aged 60 days for the finest flavor, and all are hand-cut by the restaurant’s own in-house butcher.

Locally known as the “minister of meat” on radio, John Pickerel, co-owner of the steakhouse with his wife, Melanie Bajakian, says, “We compete with a whole bunch of palates and flavors, but great steak just seems to always come through. You have to start with something that’s both aged and tender, and very well marbled.”

The steakhouse’s own “cow school” helps waitstaff share information with patrons about the brand of beef, which it has offered for nearly 25 years, and answer any questions they may have.

“Our marketing initiatives are at the table. We have to constantly make people aware that the Certified Angus Beef ® brand is the difference, and that starts at the table and that starts with training,” Pickerel says.
